Job description

ProMedica Flower Hospital is located in Sylvania OH, a suburb of Toledo, OH. Among being located in one of the area's most beautiful landscapes, Sylvania offers a high-quality lifestyle for its residents with Sylvania’s public school as one of the finest in the region, rated as “Excellent” by the state of Ohio. There are many outdoor activities to enjoy at our nationally recognized Pacesetter Park, along with music and entertainment found at Centennial Terrace and Downtown Sylvania, and the LPGA annual tournament. The Flower Hospital campus is a 311-bed facility that houses the Hickman Cancer Center, ER Trauma Center, and is the regional leader for inpatient adult psychiatric services. The campus includes our hospice facility, the Ebeid Center.

Pharmacy technician II employees work to assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technician II work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Pharmacy technician II employees have achieved CPhT certification. Tecinican II employees actively participate in the creation of an environment that fosters patient, family, physician and employee satisfaction.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

*All duties listed below are essential unless noted otherwise*

1. Tasks are assigned according to Ohio or Michigan Board of Pharmacy restrictions as noted in OAC 4729:3-3-01 and Public Health Code 333.17739 and are noted below in specific accountabilities

2. Collaborates with team members in meeting department goals. Establishes and maintains mechanisms for communication and constructive problem solving with staff. Utilizes a team approach in decision-making and problem solving. Builds trust and mutual respect.

3. Maintains professional, helpful and courteous relationships with nursing and other hospital employees, patients, and their families.

4. Performs all duties and responsibilities in an ethical and responsible manner.

5. Supports the department in providing a vision for its direction and embraces the change process to achieve the vision.

6. Fosters the culture of patient safety by using the error prevention techniques.

7. Communicates effectively orally and in writing within department as well as to all external customers.

8. Strives for continuous improvement by focusing on key department metrics.

9. Participates in creating an environment for success through team participation.

10. Follows work assignments according to established policies, procedures, and protocols

INPATIENT TECHNICIAN II ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Accepting new written, faxed or electronic prescription orders from a prescriber or a prescriber’s agent.

2. Accepting new verbal prescription orders, including refill authorizations, for non-controlled drugs from a prescriber or a prescriber’s agent.

3. Entering information into and retrieving information from the electronic record or patient profile.

4. Preparing and affixing labels.

5. Stocking dangerous drugs and retrieving those drugs from inventory.

6. Counting and pouring dangerous drugs into containers.

7. Placing dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist.

8. Performing non-sterile drug compounding after receiving required additional site specific training.

9. Performing sterile drug compounding after receiving required additional site specific training.

10. Performing sterile compounding of hazardous drugs after receiving additional site specific training.

11. Stocking automated drug dispensing units, floor stock, and crash carts at a location licensed as a terminal distributor of dangerous drugs.

12. Other duties as assigned

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, 18 years of age.

License:

• OHIO:

  • Active Ohio Board of Pharmacy Certified Technician License OR
  • Ohio Board of Pharmacy Intern license and P2 status in schooling

Certification: Certified Pharmacy Technician required (either PTCB or ExCPT (NHA) exam permitted), unless has intern license.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Personal Protective Equipment: Will wear appropriate PPE when compounding nonsterile, sterile and hazardous products

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift materials up to 50 pounds. Non-material handling of continuous sitting and reaching, standing, squatting, kneeling, walking, and stairs. Frequent manual manipulations that may affect hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. Must be able to move about and between workstations.
