GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Provides distributive pharmacy services, assistance, and support for the registered pharmacist.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Processes medication orders including computer order entry, medication preparation, and assembling all items prior to pharmacist final check. (25%)
  2. Maintains pharmacy inventory and supplies according to established policies and procedures, including inspection of assigned areas and use of pharmacy computer systems. (25%)
  3. Provides customer service by taking patient prescriptions, documenting all required information, handling customer interactions courteously and efficiently, and releasing medications as per policy/procedure. (25%)
  4. For Outpatient Techs: Validates Medicaid, Medicare, or commercial insurance drug coverage, ensures adjudication is complete, addresses error messages, handles cash, prepares deposits, and accounting reports. (25%)
  5. For Inpatient Techs: Compounds, stocks, repackage, and batch from bulk medications. Prepares routine patient orders for IV pharmaceuticals, including compounding, preparation, and labeling of IV admixtures such as antibiotics, solutions, irrigations, narcotics, parenteral nutrition, and chemotherapy. (25%)
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) or ExCPT Pharmacy Technician - National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Incumbents as of July 1, 2022, must achieve CPhT by 1/1/2024.
  • Completion of a pharmacy technician training program or 1 year of equivalent experience in lieu of formal training.

Preferred

  • 1 year of pharmacy experience in the respective area.
