Qualifications

Job Summary

The Pharmacy Technician II, under general supervision of a pharmacist, performs technical tasks within the pharmacy department. Responsibilities may include medication preparation, compounding, dispensing, inventory control, unit dose prepackaging, and basic computer system operations. Demonstrates the ability to work competently in general and some specialty areas of pharmacy practice.

Essential Functions
  1. Fills and delivers/dispenses medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Performs technical tasks in specialty areas such as medication histories, sterile and non-sterile preparation, payer adjudication, call center, clinical pharmacy support, inventory management including controlled substances, and repackaging. Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information. (50%)
  2. Triages and escalates questions or issues outside the technician scope to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as needed. (30%)
  3. Ensures adequate supplies are available for patient care. Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately. (20%)
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Post-high school diploma or certificate program completion of a pharmacy technician training program preferred.
Work Experience
  • 1-3 years of pharmacy technician experience in healthcare or retail setting required.
Licenses
  • CPHT-Certified Pharmacy Technician (PTCB) required.
  • PHAT-Licensed Pharmacy Technician (DORA) required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work as part of a team.

  • Knowledge of pharmacy practices and procedures.

  • Organization and communication skills.
  • Typing, proofreading skills.
  • Ability to work independently within scope.
  • Knowledge of prescription processing and third-party billing, if applicable.
