GENERAL OVERVIEW:

*This position is eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus for a 1-year commitment*

Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, performs a variety of technical, clinical, and clerical duties to support the hospital-wide unit-dose drug distribution system and intravenous admixture program. Responsibilities include maintaining confidential reports, data entry and retrieval, preparing intravenous medications, filing, delivering routine orders for pharmaceuticals, and assisting pharmacists with daily duties. All orders are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Distribution/Processing: Delivers medications including controlled substances, completes order entry, fills medication orders, processes charges, credits, admissions, discharges, and transfers. Answers phones and relays messages. Under supervision, fills patient orders for unit dose carts and prepackaged pharmaceuticals, prepares, compounds, and labels IV admixtures. Uses pharmacy resources and technology effectively. Performs routine supply and billing functions.
  2. Inventory: Maintains pharmacy inventory and supplies according to policies, assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, storing pharmaceuticals, restocks medications, and prepackages bulk medications in unit dose packages.
  3. IV Prep/Packaging: Compounds, stocks, repackages, and batches medications. Prepares routine patient orders for IV pharmaceuticals.
  4. Work Environment: Supports department operations through computer functions, cart fill lists, pick lists, medication refills, label generation, and communication. Maintains a clean and organized workspace.
  5. Safety and Quality: Participates in performance improvement and regulatory compliance, promotes safety, and monitors processes and outcomes.
  6. Other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) or ExCPT from NHA required within 24 months of hire. Incumbents as of July 1, 2022, must achieve CPhT by 1/1/2024.

Preferred:

  • Completion of a pharmacy technician training program.
  • Previous experience in a clinical healthcare setting.
