Mercy Pharmacy is seeking a Pharmacy Technician I – Receiving to join our team. This full-time, early-morning role focuses on receiving inventory, unloading trucks, stocking medications, and maintaining accurate pharmacy inventory levels.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Pharmacy Technician I – Receiving (Full Time)

Mercy is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician I – Receiving to join our pharmacy team. This is a full-time, early morning position focused on receiving inventory, unloading delivery trucks, stocking medications and supplies, and maintaining accurate pharmacy inventory levels. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, can prioritize tasks effectively, and takes pride in ensuring medications are available when patients need them.

Working under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and in accordance with all federal and state regulations, this role is essential to supporting pharmacy operations and delivering exceptional patient care.

Primary Responsibilities
Receiving & Inventory Management
  • Receive, inspect, and process incoming pharmaceutical shipments and supplies.
  • Unload delivery trucks and transport inventory safely throughout the pharmacy.
  • Stock medications and supplies in designated storage locations while maintaining proper rotation and organization.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with inventory control activities.
  • Ensure the security and proper storage of drugs and pharmacy products.
  • Monitor assigned areas for outdated medications and assist with quality assurance processes.
  • Follow hazardous waste disposal procedures and all safety regulations.
Pharmacy Operations
  • Input data into EPIC as appropriate.
  • Prepare medication orders for pharmacist verification by retrieving, counting, and occasionally compounding medications.
  • Accurately fill medication orders and prescriptions in a timely manner.
  • Prepare medications for delivery or shipment following pharmacist verification.
  • Deliver medications to nursing units and patient care areas as needed.
  • Retrieve unused medications and process credits when appropriate.
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and sanitization of pharmacy equipment and workspaces.
  • Use sound judgment to prioritize workflow based on patient and departmental needs.
Technology & Workflow
  • Demonstrate proficiency with pharmacy automation technology and workflow management systems.
  • Operate automated dispensing cabinets, robotic dispensing equipment, and other pharmacy technology.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of pharmacy automation systems and associated software.
Professional Development & Teamwork
  • Complete all required hospital, department, and pharmacy-specific training programs and competencies.
  • Participate in technician orientation and ongoing training activities.
  • Attend departmental meetings and daily huddles.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and between shifts.
  • Demonstrate Mercy’s commitment to exceptional customer service and professional communication.
Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Licensure
  • Active registration and good standing with the State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician or willingness to submit an application for registration by the first day of employment, including fingerprinting for the FBI background check.
Experience
  • One year of pharmacy-related experience preferred, but not required.
Certifications
  • Successfully complete pharmacy department orientation and required competencies.
Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to work effectively under time constraints in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to safely lift, move, and stock inventory received through daily deliveries.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy automation technology and medication distribution processes.
