A Pharmacy Technician assists the pharmacist in his/her professional responsibilities in providing pharmacy services. Working under the direction of a licensed pharmacist, participates in the preparation, dispensing, distribution and return of patient specific medications including intravenous admixtures, supplies and maintains automated technology equipment, packages unit of use dosages, maintains and transports pharmaceuticals, and performs tasks associated with regulatory compliance. Documents activities as indicated and performs other duties as required. A Medication Reconciliation Pharmacy Technician will be independently obtaining medication and allergy histories for patients that will be admitted to the hospital from the Emergency Department. Information will be obtained by interviewing the patient, patient family, calling local pharmacies and also using other available resources. The information obtained will be entered into a computer system and it will be used by physicians and other health care providers to determine treatment plans and medication orders during and post discharge from the hospital. Must obtain the CPHT certification within 6 months of hire or transfer into this position.
