Primary Responsibilities: Refills Pyxis Medstations with unit dosages from medication profiles with 95% accuracy and delivers meds to patient units or Pyxis Medstations. Performs routine scheduled rounds to nursing units to deliver and pick up new medication orders and intravenous admixtures. Completes rounds every hour, Sunday through Saturday, within 15 minutes. Receives, interprets, and fills all copies of medication orders from doctors' order sheets. Inventories medications on patient units, fills orders, and initiates charges. Fills and dispenses pharmaceutical orders for outpatient clinics and hospital departments with a 95% accuracy rate. Compounds prescriptions and bulk stock solutions, prepackages bulk medications into unit dose packaging. Performs daily Pyxis QA checks and completes reports. Reviews doctors' order book for completeness. Maintains pharmacy stock, processes patient charges, and ensures cleanliness of the pharmacy area. Prepares sterile products, including total parenteral nutrition solutions, intravenous admixtures, and irrigating solutions with 95% accuracy. Reconstitutes, prepares, and labels injections, including antibiotics, sterile and nonsterile pharmaceuticals as needed. Performs calculations for admixtures, checks orders for accuracy and incompatibility, and maintains stock of supplies. Ensures all sterile equipment and pharmaceuticals are available and prepares extemporaneous pharmaceuticals based on current needs.
Required Qualifications: High school education, ability to read pharmaceutical orders, and understanding of drug and dosage forms. Knowledge of pharmaceutical and medical terminology preferred. Operates electronic devices and packaging machines, with training provided. Works accurately under stress, meets deadlines, and completes technical training for intravenous admixtures. Complies with vaccination requirements for influenza and COVID-19.
