Job description

At NorthBay Healthcare, the Pharmacy Technician I will work under the supervision of the Pharmacy manager and oversight by Staff Pharmacists. The role involves performing entry-level technician functions, assisting with drug dispensing and record keeping, and maintaining pharmacy inventory levels and integrity both within and outside the pharmacy.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and label oral, injectable, and other medications for patients under supervision and verification by a pharmacist, according to departmental policies and procedures.
  2. Under the supervision of a Pharmacist, reconstitute additives, calculate volumes, and mix IV solutions and nutritional products using aseptic technique.
  3. Answer telephone calls from patient care areas regarding dispensing issues, IVs, and general order clarifications. Refer all clinical and pharmacologic questions to the pharmacist.
  4. Prepare unit-dose packages of solid and injectable preparations from bulk stock.
  5. Perform IV rounds to monitor the utilization of solutions with additives.
  6. Prepare IV labels and maintain IV additive profiles for patients receiving medication solutions.
  7. Credit returned and unused medication to patient profiles in the computer.
  8. Restock and maintain inventory levels in immediate working areas.
  9. Perform ADM activities including running reports, restocking, and billing.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Registration as a Pharmacy technician or Intern Pharmacist with the California State Board of Pharmacy is required.
  • Completion of a pharmacy technologist training program. Prior hospital practice experience is not required. Knowledge of hospital pharmacy laws is essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Compensation: $33.24 - $38.98 per hour, based on experience. Per diem differential is included in the hourly pay rates. Night Shift Differential: $4.20/hour; Evening Shift Differential: $2.70/hour; Weekend Shift: $0.95/hour.
