Job description

Summary: Under the direction of a staff pharmacist and/or pharmacy leadership team, follow established policies and procedures to perform routine support tasks essential to the pharmacy department's operation. Tasks include, but are not limited to, preparation and distribution of unit dose medications, outpatient prescriptions, stock orders, while maintaining medication safety and integrity. Responsibilities may also involve technical training and participation in departmental projects. Staffing assignments will span central pharmacy and specialized areas.

Essential Functions
  1. Perform pharmaceutical dosage calculations for extemporaneous dosage forms under pharmacist supervision.
  2. Adhere to safety requirements for handling medications per organizational policies and regulations.
  3. Prepare compounded sterile products using aseptic techniques, distribute and transport controlled substances, or maintain code cart inventory, specific to unit needs.
  4. Assist in training Pharmacy Technician Trainees.
  5. Maintain familiarity with pharmacy practices, legal requirements, prescription processing, drug identification, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, handling, and storage.

High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

Licenses and Credentials
  • Pharmacy Technician [State License] - HR Only required
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] - Preferred
Experience

1-2 years of hospital-related experience, formal training, or certification from a pharmacy technician program preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Perform intermediate mathematical calculations for medication preparation.
  • Follow controlled substance regulations.
  • Improve skills with pharmacy technology, including robotics, automation, software, and equipment.
  • Read, interpret, and follow complex instructions accurately in sterile environments.
