Children's Minnesota is one of the largest pediatric health systems in the United States and the only health system in Minnesota to provide care exclusively to children, from before birth through young adulthood. An independent and not‑for‑profit system since 1924, it serves children throughout the Upper Midwest at two free‑standing hospitals, nine primary‑care clinics, multiple specialty clinics and seven rehabilitation sites. It is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as a top children’s hospital.

Department Overview

The pharmacy department is staffed by registered pharmacists and certified pharmacy technicians with specialized pediatric pharmacy training. Inpatients pharmacists perform daily rounds, provide medication education, consultation and specialized drug information services, and support pharmacy automation, IV production and compounding services. The team provides 24‑hour inpatient operations and 16‑hour decentral pharmacist coverage, including subspecialists in neonatal, pediatric and cardiovascular critical care, oncology, neuroscience, and emergency medicine. Ambulatory pharmacists deliver pediatric pharmacy services for home infusion, retail pharmacy, oncology clinic/infusion center and hemophilia treatment center and manage medication therapy within primary and specialty clinics. The department mentors pharmacy students and hosts a robust residency program (PGY‑1 and PGY‑2 in pediatrics and pharmacogenomics).

Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician I assists a registered pharmacist with dispensing medical prescriptions and related processes. Responsibilities include collecting and inputting new and refill prescriptions, entering patient information, completing internally trained tasks once proficient, and training new staff. The role requires multitasking, accuracy, and the ability to perform repetitive tasks.

Qualifications

License/Certification/Registration required? Yes.

Active technician registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy OR active registration as a pharmacy intern in the state of MN with active enrollment in an accredited college of pharmacy is required. For newly registered technicians or registered interns without Tech 240 certification, completion of 240 hours of theoretical and practical training on‑site within twelve months of hire is required. Certified pharmacy technician (CPhT) is preferred but not required. Active registration as a pharmacy intern in MN with active enrollment in an accredited college of pharmacy may be accepted in lieu of CPhT certification.

Annual salaries displayed are based on full‑time employment (40 standard hours per week). Annual salaries for part‑time positions will be prorated based on the employee's scheduled weekly hours in relation to the full‑time standard.
