Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Pharmacy Technician I for full-time day/night shifts. The role supports pharmacists in storage, distribution, and daily drug handling, and assists with documentation and routine tasks across patient care areas.

Shifts are 12 hours, three per week, with every other weekend and rotating holidays, offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus for a two-year commitment. The position focuses on accuracy, safety, and collaboration with the Pharmacy team.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Accurately fills floor stock requests.
• Prepare correct labeling for bulk drugs.
• Perform basic pharmaceutical calculations.
• Understand stability concepts for parenteral pharmaceuticals.
• Interpret physician orders and distinguish between orders and other documents.
• Perform monthly medication storage area inspections.
• Select drugs from stock in correct dose and quantity under pharmacist supervision.
• Demonstrate aseptic technique when preparing sterile products.
• Repackage drugs into unit-of-use containers.

Pharmacy Technician I

Full-time, Day/Night Shift, (3) 12-hour shifts per week, 7:00 am - 7:30 pm, or 7:00 pm - 7:30 am. Every other weekend and on rotating holidays.

Purpose:

Responsible for the proper storage and distribution of drugs; receives and accounts for drugs coming from all vendors. Delivers medications to patient care and other areas; picks up drug returns and applicable paperwork; and puts all returned unit-dose products back to proper receipts. Responsible for filling patient drug boxes, floor stock orders, and automated dispensing cabinets. Assists Pharmacists as directed. Maintains daily report.

Responsibilities:

• Accurately fills floor stock request.
• Prepare correct labeling for bulk drugs.
• Perform basic pharmaceutical calculations.
• Basic understanding of the concept of physical stability and chemical stability as it relates to parenteral pharmaceuticals.
• Correctly interpret physician orders and can distinguish between pharmaceutical orders, laboratory tests, radiology, nursing, and other orders.
• Perform monthly medication storage area inspections.
• Selects drugs from stock in proper dose, dosage form, and quantity as ordered by the physician under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
• Understands microbial contamination and exhibits Aseptic Technique while preparing sterile pharmaceutical products.
• Repackages drugs into a unit-of-use container.
