Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Pharmacy Technician I for full-time day or night shifts. The role involves stocking, labeling, and distributing medications, assisting pharmacists, and maintaining daily reports. Shifts include 7:00 am–7:30 pm or 7:00 pm–7:30 am, with every other weekend and rotating holidays.

A $5,000 sign-on bonus is offered for a 2-year commitment. Responsibilities include filling floor stock, accurate labeling of bulk drugs, basic calculations, and aseptic technique in sterile product prep.

• Select drugs from stock in proper dose, dosage form, and quantity as ordered by the physician under pharmacist supervision.
• Demonstrate aseptic technique while preparing sterile products.
• Repackage drugs into unit-of-use containers.

Pharmacy Technician I

Full-time, Day/Night Shift, (3) 12-hour shifts per week, 7:00 am - 7:30 pm, or 7:00 pm - 7:30 am. Every other weekend and on rotating holidays.

Purpose:

Responsible for the proper storage and distribution of drugs; receives and accounts for drugs coming from all vendors. Delivers medications to patient care and other areas; picks up drug returns and applicable paperwork; and puts all returned unit-dose products back to proper receipts. Responsible for filling patient drug boxes, floor stock orders, and automated dispensing cabinets. Assists Pharmacists as directed. Maintains daily report.

Responsibilities:

• Accurately fills floor stock request.
• Prepare correct labeling for bulk drugs.
• Perform basic pharmaceutical calculations.
• Basic understanding of the concept of physical stability and chemical stability as it relates to parenteral pharmaceuticals.
• Correctly interpret physician orders and can distinguish between pharmaceutical orders, laboratory tests, radiology, nursing, and other orders.
• Perform monthly medication storage area inspections.
• Selects drugs from stock in proper dose, dosage form, and quantity as ordered by the physician under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
• Understands microbial contamination and exhibits Aseptic Technique while preparing sterile pharmaceutical products.
• Repackages drugs into a unit-of-use container.
