Summary:

The Home Care Pharmacy Technician position resides within the Pharmacy Department and supports the Home Care pharmacy by assisting the pharmacists with preparation of medication, as well as coordinating pharmacy services for factor patients through the Hemophilia Treatment Center (HTC). Responsibilities include completing third-party prior authorization requests, record keeping to ensure compliance with HTC factor patients and the hemophilia alliance, inventory management within the homecare pharmacy, and maximizing efficiency for patients and clinic staff. Additional operational support within the home care pharmacy is also expected.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide medication access and affordability services for patients.
2. Demonstrate proficiency with pharmacy and health system information systems.
3. Document appropriately in the electronic medical record.
4. Ensure timely and accurate documentation related to services provided to providers, clinic staff, and patients/families.
5. Perform general home care operational duties.
6. Prepare patient prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
7. Maintain adequate medication inventory levels, including removing out-of-date and recalled medications.
8. Communicate effectively with pharmacy team members, physicians, nurses, and patients/families.
9. Resolve routine medication-related issues and process transactions accurately.
10. Assist in filling and shipping medications to ensure stability during shipment.
11. Assist in maintaining pharmacy accreditation.
12. Ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping to maintain program compliance.
13. Adhere to policies, state, and federal laws and guidelines.
14. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or pharmacist related to medication access and patient care.

Other information:

Technical Expertise

• Prior outpatient pharmacy technician experience preferred.
• Knowledge of specialty pharmacy disease states is preferred.

Licensure

• Ohio Board of Pharmacy Certified Technician License required.
• Registration as a National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB or equivalent) required.

Education and Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
• 3 to 5 years of relevant experience preferred.
• No supervisory experience required.
