Job summary

Biological Sciences Division at the University of Chicago is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to manage prescription refills, obtain prior authorizations, and coordinate injectable ARV-related activities within the HIV care program. The role engages with providers, pharmacies, and patients to ensure timely access to medications.

Under supervision, the technician handles medication deliveries, data monitoring, and collaboration with the clinical team to support research activities and patient care.

Qualifications

• Vocational training or equivalent experience in a related field.
• Less than 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
• Pharmacy technician experience.
• Experience in a healthcare setting.
• License or eligibility for licensure as Registered Pharmacy Technician by the State of Illinois.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Access, Word).

Responsibilities

• Coordinate medication deliveries to clinic and direct deliveries to patients’ homes.
• Support clinical team by facilitating urgent medication refills.
• Initiate, submit, and follow up on prior authorization requests and patient assistance programs.
• Manage injectable medication inventory per protocol.
• Complete prior authorizations for injectable ARVs.
• Assist with injectable ARV related medication deliveries in the community.
• Communicate with patients and clinical teams about upcoming appointments and issues.
• Coordinate delivery and inventory with specialty pharmacies.
• Update patient records for injectable medications in clinic and community.
• Data entry/monitoring for patients on injectable ARVs.
• Maintain patient registry and monthly reporting to HIV prevention and care team.
• Process prescription refill requests via electronic medical record system (Epic).
• Call in authorized prescriptions for unsuccessful submissions.
• Troubleshoot prescription issues with pharmacies and escalate as needed.
• Document study encounters and assist with recruitment.
• Support QA reviews and other assigned tasks.
