Overview
At Houston Methodist, the Pharmacy Technician position is responsible for completing routine pharmacy services related to medication acquisition, including triaging phone calls, repackaging medications, dispensing, labeling, charging/crediting, compounding, and inventorying medications. The role ensures optimal patient safety and customer service.

Responsibilities

- Perform safe medication distribution functions including triage, repackaging, labeling, charging/crediting, compounding, and inventory management.
- Support workflow, report issues, document accurately, and contribute to quality improvement activities.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Perform medication functions efficiently and safely, report errors, and participate in safety initiatives.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Use resources efficiently, avoid waste, and suggest solutions to meet departmental goals.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Participate in projects, seek learning opportunities, and pursue continual development as a Pharmacy Technician.

Qualifications
EDUCATION- High School diploma or equivalent (GED, homeschool verification, or post-secondary completion)
- Two years of college preferred
WORK EXPERIENCE- Zero experience required; one year of relevant Pharmacy Technician experience preferred
License/Certification
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS- LPHT - Texas Pharmacy Technician Registration OR
- RPI - Registered Pharmacy Intern with Texas licensure OR
- IV Certification (ACPE) within 90 days if applicable
KSA/ Supplemental Data
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES- Demonstrated competency in job skills, ongoing assessments, and performance evaluations
- Proficiency in English for effective communication, especially regarding safety
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team
- Accurate calculation skills for dosage determinations
- Proficient in computer systems relevant to pharmacy operations
- Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to excellent customer service
