Job summary

IRMC in Pennsylvania is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support daily operations in the hospital pharmacy. You will prepare, label, and package medications under pharmacist supervision and deliver them to nursing units and patient care areas.

Responsibilities include accurate order entry in the pharmacy information system, sterile and non-sterile compounding as applicable, inventory management, and collaboration with healthcare staff to ensure safe, effective patient care.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • CPhT certification within 2 years of hire is required.
  • Must complete registration with PA State Board of Pharmacy within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, label, and package medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Deliver medications to nursing units and patient care areas in a timely manner.
  • Accurately enter and maintain medication orders in the pharmacy information system.
  • Compound sterile and non-sterile preparations according to USP standards (including IV admixtures, chemotherapy, and TPN, if applicable).
  • Maintain accurate medication inventory, restock automated dispensing machines, and conduct periodic inventory audits.
  • Assist in medication reconciliation and billing processes.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and state/federal pharmacy regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the pharmacy work areas.
  • Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare staff to ensure optimal patient care.

Education

High school graduate or equivalent
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) within 2 years of hire
Registration with PA State Board of Pharmacy within 6 months of hire

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
  • EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent required
  • EXPERIENCE: Comparable experience in healthcare setting will be considered
  • LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
    • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) obtained within 2 years of hire and maintain certification by meeting PTCB standards required.
    • Must complete registration with the Pennsylvania State Board of Pharmacy within 6 months of hire.
