Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care by performing technical and clerical duties related to pharmacy operations.

Job Description

Shift options vary, with most occurring during the evenings:

• 0600-1430
• 0730-1600
• 1300-2130
• 1330-2200
• 1400-2230

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Education: High school diploma or GED required.
• Licenses/Certifications: Current Pharmacy Tech registration or Pharmacist intern registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy required. ACPE I.V Certification with a 40-hour course in I.V. admixture preferred. Sterile Products Certification required if incumbent compounds sterile products.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills

• 1-2 years hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology required.

Principal Responsibilities

• Select prescribed medications based on dosage and strength indicated.
• Receive merchandise and manage inventory.
• Monitor for out-of-stock or expired inventory.
• Deliver medications to patient care areas.
• Maintain emergency medication trays.
• Package, label, and record unit dose medications.
• Load drugs into automated dispensing systems and manage inventory.
• Respond to medication requests from nursing and other departments.
• Ensure medication safety and compliance with technology checks.
• Prepare sterile products aseptically when needed.
• Assist customers and gather medication histories as appropriate.
• Manage pharmaceutical waste properly.
• Handle medication returns and inventory adjustments.
• If a registered intern, consult with physicians under supervision.
• Ensure patient, staff, and visitor safety, adhering to policies and standards.
• Support professional growth, serve as preceptor or mentor, and contribute to department goals.
• Provide compassionate, personalized care aligning with Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
