Job summary

White House Clinics in Mt Vernon, KY is seeking a pharmacy technician to assist in providing pharmacy services under the supervision of a pharmacist. Primary functions include dispensing support, data entry, inventory control, and customer service in a clinic setting.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, no experience required (prior pharmacy experience preferred), and BLS certification. The position involves travel to cover locations and offers benefits and a starting wage of $15.04

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist dispensing by compounding, counting, and pouring meds under pharmacist oversight
  • Verify drop-off prescriptions for completeness and patient details
  • Enter new patient data and update records in the pharmacy system
  • Enter prescription information into the system and prepare labels
  • Maintain medication filing, shelving, and checks for outdated meds
  • Support inventory, ordering, and stock management; assist indigent drug program meds
  • Provide non-drug information to patients and answer simple questions
  • Operate cash register and process transactions with receipts
  • Clean pharmacy equipment and work area
  • Attend meetings and participate in staff development as requested
  • Take on additional duties as instructed by supervisor

Primary Function

The pharmacy technician assists in providing pharmacy services to White House Clinic patients under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Principle Duties
  • Assist in dispensing of prescriptions by compounding, mixing suspensions, counting medication, or pouring liquids as directed by and with oversight from the pharmacist.
  • Check all prescriptions at drop off for completeness and accuracy, including verifying patient information and date of birth is on the prescription.
  • Enter new patient data for new pharmacy patients and update changes in existing patients electronic pharmacy record.
  • Enter prescription information into pharmacy system and prepare prescription labels.
  • Assist with medication filing, receiving and shelving medications, and routine checks for outdated medications.
  • Assist with medication and supply inventory control, ordering, and stock management. Also assists Financial Counselor/Enabling Services in ordering medication for indigent drug program.
  • Provide non-drug information to patients and answers simple inquires.
  • Operate cash register, preform transactions, and give patient proper receipts.
  • Clean pharmacy equipment, utensils, and work area.
  • Participate in staff development and educational activities, attend required meetings, and participate in departmental and organizational meetings as requested.
  • Assist with other duties or in other departments as instructed by supervisor.
Accountability

Accountable to the pharmacist in charge or the pharmacist supervising, and ultimately the Pharmacy Director.

None.

Typical Working Conditions

Work is performed in a pharmacy physically located within the clinic environment. Requires frequent contact with pharmacy staff, other health care professionals, and the public. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment. Position may include possible exposure to aggressive or violent patients, and requires the ability to work under stressful conditions, often for long periods of time.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Regular travel to cover assigned pharmacy locations is a requirement for this position.

WORK HOURS

37.5 hours per week, subject to wage and hour laws. Occasional overtime may be required.

SALARY

Starting at $15.04 per hour, based on experience.

Position requires knowledge of pharmaceutical and related medical technology, metric and apothecary system of weights and measurements. It also requires knowledge in medical safety standards to assist in working with pharmaceutical substances, prescription drugs, and dispensing functions to check for correctness. Employee must possess skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Candidate must have the ability to read and interpret prescription information, understand and follow oral and written instructions, perform basic calculations, and communicate clearly.
