Job summary

Northern Nevada HOPES Pharmacy is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support daily operations, including processing prescriptions, dispensing medications, managing inventory, and assisting patients under pharmacist supervision.

The role emphasizes 340B program compliance, URAC quality standards, HIPAA and team collaboration to improve medication access and health outcomes within our community.

Qualifications

  • Active Pharmacy Technician license in good standing in the State of Nevada.
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy billing, including Medicaid, Medicare Part D, and commercial insurance claims processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA) and professional, ethical conduct.
  • Strong attention to detail with accurate prescription data entry, labeling, and claims processing.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a high-volume, patient-centered environment.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with pharmacists, providers, and care teams.
  • Basic proficiency with pharmacy management systems and standard office software.
  • Familiarity with 340B program operations and compliance requirements preferred.
  • Experience with medication access programs, adherence programs, or population health initiatives preferred. National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) preferred.
  • 3+ years of pharmacy technician experience preferred.
  • Ability to work a consistent Monday-Friday schedule or flexible schedule as assigned preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process prescription orders by accurately entering, reviewing, and preparing medications under pharmacist supervision.
  • Retrieve, count, package, and label medications in accordance with established accuracy and safety standards.
  • Verify patient identity using two identifiers prior to dispensing medications to ensure patient safety.
  • Triage and prioritize incoming prescriptions based on urgency, workflow, and patient needs.
  • Process and adjudicate prescription insurance claims, including Medicaid, Medicare Part D, and commercial plans, and resolve rejections.
  • Maintain accurate patient demographic, insurance, and eligibility information in pharmacy system, including sliding fee scale documentation.
  • Ensure prescriptions are filled using the appropriate inventory (340B vs. non340B) based on eligibility and 340B program requirements.
  • Support 340B program compliance by following established workflows, maintaining documentation, and escalating discrepancies.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready documentation of dispensing, billing, and patient interactions.
  • Assist in inventory management, including receiving, verifying, storing, rotating, and removing expired medications.
  • Perform routine cycle counts and participate in annual physical inventory to ensure inventory accuracy and compliance.
  • Identify, report, and assist in resolving inventory discrepancies, recalls, shortages, and backorders.
  • Provide timely and professional customer service, including answering phone calls and assisting patients with medication-related needs.
  • Conduct patient outreach to support medication adherence and identify barriers to medication access.
  • Document adherence activities, refill communications, and patient interactions in accordance with policy.
  • Coordinate prescription refills, prior authorization support, and communication with providers and care teams to facilitate timely access to medications.
  • Assist with mail order and delivery coordination, including verifying eligibility and preparing prescriptions for shipment.
  • Utilize pharmacy systems, barcode scanning, and workflow tools to ensure accuracy, traceability, and operational efficiency.
  • Handle financial transactions accurately, including cash handling, payment processing, and reconciliation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work environment in accordance with safety and infection control standards.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and program requirements, including HIPAA, DEA, HRSA 340B, and URAC standards.
