Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital is seeking a PRN Pharmacy Technician to support outpatient operations. The role focuses on prescription processing, patient checkout, and maintaining safe, high-quality filling workstations, with no bedside delivery or clinical duties.

Shifts are varied 8:00am–4:30pm, 8:00am–6:30pm, 8:30am–7:00pm, and Saturday 9:00am–1:00pm. A collaborative team environment and ongoing training opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through PTCB
  • Active OBOP registration as CPT/RPT or Technician Trainee

Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists in filling inpatient orders and completing necessary documentation.
  • Prepare, deliver and collect pharmacy items across the medical center, including automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Perform floor checks and stock checks as required.
  • Monitor stock for outdated medications and dispose of them properly.
  • Process medication returns/refunds to patient accounts and compound non-sterile meds per USP795.
  • Prepackage medications per SOPs.
  • Answer telephones and assist callers not requiring pharmacist judgment.
  • Interact with EPIC, Pyxis, Carousels, Pharmacy Keeper to respond to medication orders.
  • Assist service window customers including house staff and couriers.
  • Maintain cleanliness of pharmacy areas with general cleaning duties.
  • Complete mandatory education and department-specific training.

The Community PRN Pharmacy Technician supports outpatient pharmacy operations at AGMC, conveniently located in the Main Lobby just beyond the main hospital entrance. In this role, the technician assists with patient checkout, prescription processing, and maintaining safe, high-quality filling workstations, including controlled substance back counts, insurance adjudication, and inventory management. This position does not include bedside delivery, compounding, or clinical responsibilities, allowing focus on efficient, patient-friendly pharmacy service. This is a PRN role. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm, 8:00am to 6:30pm, 8:30am to 7:00pm and Sat 9:00am to 1:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
  • Assist pharmacists in filling inpatient orders, including completion of necessary documentation.
  • Prepare, deliver and collect all pharmacy items throughout the medical center including re-stocking of automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Perform floor checks, stock checks and assigned unit review as required.
  • Assist Pharmacists in monitoring stock for outdated medications and properly dispose of them in a timely manner.
  • Process medication returns/refunds to patient accounts and compound non-sterile medications according to USP795 regulations.
  • Prepackage medication as necessary and according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Answer telephones and assist callers with needs that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist.
  • Interact with EPIC, our dispensing automation software (e.g. Pyxis, Carousels, etc.) and Pharmacy Keeper software, to answer all questions related to the processing of a medication order.
  • Assist customers at service window including house staff, couriers and others as needed.
  • Perform general cleaning duties as assigned to maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy areas.
  • Complete mandatory education and training to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) verified through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
  • Active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
  • Prefer Associates degree or some college coursework
  • Hospital inpatient experience
  • Pharmacy Technician experience
  • Proficiency in technical skills used in pharmacy practice
  • Understanding of medical terminology and calculationsExperience with EPIC electronic healthcare record other similar programs
Physical Requirements:
  • Constant standing and walking
  • Working with infrequent disagreeable features and safety hazards
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required
Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $16.47

Maximum hourly: $23.61
