Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of a technician supervisor and pharmacist, performs medication related tasks such as packaging, preparation of all forms of medications, record keeping, and non‑judgmental aspects of drug distribution.
Schedule and Compensation
Schedule: Monday through Friday, every fourth weekend. Shift: 1‑Day Shift, 8 hours. Hours: 40 per week. Hiring range: $18.76 – $29.96. Signing bonus available; Recruitment Team will confirm eligibility during interview process.
Responsibilities
- Obtains and maintains appropriate knowledge of the Department of Pharmacy at Marlborough Hospital and follows established policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge of automated dispensing machines and pharmacy computer system.
- Restokes and maintains drug inventory in automated dispensing machines (Pyxis Medstation).
- Performs loading/unloading of drugs from the automated dispensing machine and maintains expiration dating.
- Runs reports from automated dispensing machine console and processes discrepancy, rejection, and credit reports.
- Processes medication charges in the pharmacy computer system accurately and timely.
- Repackages, labels, and determines expiration dates for unit‑dosed packaging.
- Generates reports and labels from the pharmacy computer system.
- Carries out dosage calculations for usual dosage determinations and solution preparation using metric equivalents.
- Performs inventory control functions.
- Orders drugs using authorized distribution agents’ approved ordering systems, including the Internet application.
- Checks in orders and documents receipt on duplicate invoices.
- Handles order problems with authorized distribution agents, documents problems and resolutions.
- Maintains pharmacy and automated dispensing machine inventory, monitoring expiration dates.
- Performs aseptic compounding of parenteral admixtures and other sterile dosage forms using good aseptic technique.
- Completes pharmacy worksheet for each product compounded.
- Maintains IV hood cleanliness, documenting daily and weekly thorough cleaning.
- Presents compounded product to pharmacist for checking.
- Manages pharmaceutical sales representative interactions and sample medication tracking.
- Maintains documentation in accordance with regulatory and hospital requirements.
- Participates in departmental continuous quality improvement programs, collecting and tabulating information, implementing procedural changes.
- Participates in the training/orientation of new pharmacy employees upon request.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
- Licensed by MA Board of Pharmacy required.
- CPhT required within the first 90 days.
- High school education or certificate of equivalency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with drug brand and generic names.
- Knowledge of admixing sterile intravenous products.
- Previous experience in a hospital pharmacy setting (minimum 500 hours as a pharmacy technician trainee) or equivalent combination.
