Job description

Under general pharmacist supervision, coordinates and performs technical activities in dispensing areas. Supports development, coordination, and training of assigned areas under supervision of technician supervisor. Provides functional supervision as needed. Shifts are scheduled for 8 hours between 6:00 am and 11:30 pm, including rotating weekends.

Duties include:
  • Perform inventory maintenance in satellites and dispensing areas, including emergency drug supplies.
  • Review pharmacy medication inventory for expired medications.
  • Maintain medication inventory levels according to established par levels.
  • Manage inpatient Epic In-Baskets: print labels, determine medication needs, prepare and package medications, document activities, and manage discharge patient lists.
  • Deliver medications to patient care areas and return unused medications.
  • Ensure medication security in patient care unit medication rooms, maintaining proper storage, dating, and refrigeration as needed.
  • Maintain controls and security for controlled substances, including inventory records.
  • Generate, review, and file records related to medication distribution and dispensing (forms 127P, 131).
  • Utilize equipment such as laminar flow hoods, label printers, pharmaceutical packaging, and automated dispensing systems like OmnicellXT, MTS-350, and Med Carousel.
  • Maintain cleanliness of BSC and equipment per policies.
  • Complete quality assurance and control records for sterile compounding.
  • Maintain sterile product preparation competencies and adhere to aseptic techniques.
  • Compound sterile and non-sterile products, including anti-neoplastic drugs, following proper procedures.
  • Conduct monthly inspections of patient care areas.
  • Assist in training pharmacy students and technicians; may serve as a functional supervisor.
  • Manage activities involving narcotics and controlled substances, including inventories and documentation.
  • Refill OmnicellXT Medstations following proper procedures.
  • Assist pharmacists with medication inspections on patient care units.

The department plans to hire either a Pharmacy Technician Trainee (Pay Grade 8) or a Certified Pharmacy Technician (Pay Grade 10). Please specify your preferred position in your application.

Minimum Eligibility for Trainee:
  • Registered with the Pharmacy Board at hire.
  • Certified within one year of employment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience or education in natural sciences or completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program.
Minimum Eligibility for Certified Technician:
  • Registered with the Pharmacy Board at hire.
  • National certification through PTCB or NHA, with ongoing education requirements.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience or education as above.
Additional Qualifications:
  • Ability to calculate ratios and proportions for pharmaceuticals.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Inventory maintenance experience, teamwork, attention to detail, computer skills, accuracy, healthcare experience, patient interaction, handling challenging interactions, and Silver Level National Career Readiness Certificate.
