Job Summary

Your job is more than a job. The Pharmacy Technician Candidate provides technical support to pharmacists through medication preparation, delivery of medications, and cartfill exchange. This position performs technical duties in accordance with standard operating procedures and is responsible for ensuring accountability and accuracy. The Pharmacy Technician Candidate works under direct supervision of a Pharmacist who is responsible for the safe and proper distribution and use of drugs for inpatients and outpatients. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Medication Preparation and Delivery: Under direct supervision, procure, receive, prepare, package, distribute, and dispose of medications and pharmaceutical supplies. Prepare unit dose medication, compound oral and intravenous medications. Restock medications and supplies on patient care areas/clinics. Repackage medications into unit dosage forms and maintain appropriate ordering procedures. Ensure product verification and facilitate distribution of medications to maintain product integrity.
  • Triaging: Respond to customer needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately. Prioritize important tasks.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct regular inspections/audits focused on TJC/LBOP requirements, including examination of product and equipment integrity and expiration. Complete logs, including refrigerator/freezer temperature monitoring and required cleaning.
  • Training/Education: Participate in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of applicable experience in lieu of education.
  • Hospital experience preferred.
Licenses & Certifications

Certification Name: Pharmacy Technician Candidate – required within 12 months of hire or before license expires. Issued by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.
