General Duties

• Medication Preparation and Delivery:
  • Under direct supervision, procure, receive, prepare, package, distribute, and dispose of medications and pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Prepare unit dose medication, compound oral and intravenous medications.
  • Restock medications and other supplies in patient care areas and clinics.
  • Repackage medications in unit dosage forms and stock medications and supplies.
  • Maintain appropriate ordering procedures, verify products, and facilitate distribution to maintain product integrity.
• Triaging:
  • Respond to customers' needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately.
  • Prioritize important tasks.
• Quality Assurance:
  • Conduct regular quality assurance inspections and audits focused on TJC/LBOP requirements.
  • Examine product and equipment integrity and expiration dates.
  • Complete logs for refrigerator/freezer temperature monitoring and required cleaning.
• Training and Education:
  • Participate in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.

Education Qualifications

• Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of applicable experience in lieu of education.

Experience Qualifications

• Preferred: Hospital experience.

Licenses and Certifications

• Pharmacy Technician Candidate – Required, Issuer: Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.
• Pharmacy Technician – Required within 12 months of hire or before License expires, Issuer: Louisiana Board of Pharmacy.
