The Pharmacy Tech Buyer is the primary purchaser of medications for the Pharmacy Department. He/she will procure medications from the wholesaler on a daily basis and maintain the department\'s inventory in an organized and cost-effective manner. The Pharmacy Buyer will abide by hospital policies and standards of practice.

Responsibilities
  • Daily wholesale ordering is performed. All areas/locations of the pharmacy are reviewed daily to ensure appropriate drugs and quantities are procured.
  • Is cognizant of all pharmacy contracts and ensures optimum compliance with those contracts.
  • Periodic direct ordering through manufacturers is performed when necessary to maintain stock or take advantage of significant product price reductions.
  • Immediately informs management of any changes to drug availability and status of drug shortages; does not work in isolation, but works collaboratively toward solution.
  • Receives wholesaler shipments on a daily basis and stores products appropriately; ensures all products are properly channeled into the supply chain in an orderly manner to promote safety and efficiency (i.e., cannot order last minute products and then immediately circulate for distribution without ensuring the medication has been properly packaged or is scannable).
  • Complies with all the requirements of DSCSA.
  • Abides by all Federal, State, Regulatory, JC, BOP, DOH requirements.
  • Receives narcotics and adheres to processes in place to maintain utmost security over these medications.
  • Tracks and communicates receipt of \'patient own medications\'.
  • Manages all inventory, maintains appropriate inventory levels.
  • Leads shortage meetings with the clinical and operational teams.
  • Organizes the picking areas, and labeling min/max on bins for ease of compliance to maintain set par levels.
  • Is alert to hospital wide drugs nearing expiration or requiring re-order; manages expiring medications and proactively prevents them from entering the supply chain or returning to the pharmacy stock.
  • Maintains the recall notifications and adheres to process and regulations set forth by pharmacy management.
  • Maintains the lend/borrow log.
  • Keeps management informed of abnormal high use of medications.
  • Attends and actively participates in staff meetings.
  • Prepares, manages and oversees annual inventory.
  • Performs other duties necessary to promote the effective and efficient operation of the pharmacy department.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of previous drug purchasing experience required (Hospital setting experience preferred).
  • Proficient using computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and pharmacy information systems.
  • Excellent communications skills; verbal and written.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
  • Previous hospital technician experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Current Technician registration in good standing with the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy.
  • Current Technician certification (CPhT).

Starting Minimum Rate

Minimum rate of $32.92 Hourly
