Applicants will be placed into the appropriate job title and salary based on their individual experience and education*

• Pharmacy Assistant: ($17.64 - $26.53)
• Participate in medication distribution including cassettes, emergency carts, and controlled substances following department policy and regulations.
• Retrieve discontinued medications and return (and credit if necessary) to the pharmacy.
• Develop and maintain positive service relationships during medication distribution.

Additional Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing oral medications correctly for administration.
• Fill medication orders with proper labeling, counting, and stocking, initialing and dating as required.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Pharmacy Tech Associate:

• Maintain inventory levels in pharmacy areas.
• Practice hand hygiene and ensure medication storage compliance.
• Assist in training pharmacy personnel and students.
• Comply with laws such as HIPAA, OSHA, and PBM requirements.
• Handle sales transactions following policies.
• Participate in quality improvement activities.
• Maintain patient records and pharmacy system.
• Ensure controlled substance record accuracy and compliance.
• Communicate effectively with hospital personnel, patients, and visitors.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Use computer skills for record keeping and updating medication stations.
• Accurately manage controlled substance distribution.

Distribution & Filling

• Retrieve discontinued medications and participate in medication distribution.
• Work in sterile areas preparing cytotoxic and hazardous drugs with proper aseptic technique.
• Assist in preparing oral, injectable, and intravenous medications, including TPN.
• Manage investigational and study drugs responsibly.

Qualifications and Certifications

High school diploma or equivalent plus one of the following:

• Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program
• Six months pharmacy technician experience
• Six months as a Pharmacy Assistant at UPMC
• Enrollment in a college program and in good standing

Licensure: Act 34 clearance required.
