Job summary

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego Pharmacy is seeking an Ambulatory Pharmacy Technician to join the hospital's pharmacy team. This full-time, benefited position supports pharmacists in processing prescriptions, refills, and the Meds-to-Beds service, delivering bedside prescriptions when needed.

The role requires a High School diploma or equivalent and a California Pharmacy Technician license, with National Certification preferred and at least 2 years of retail pharmacy experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Current California Board of Pharmacy Technician License is required.
• National Pharmacy Tech Certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performing pharmacy technician duties under the supervision of registered pharmacists.
• Providing support for safe management, processing, distribution, authorization, billing, receiving, stocking, and packaging of prescription medications and OTC products.
• Processing refill authorizations, prior authorizations, patient medication history, billing prescriptions, and contacting insurance for coverage.
• May pull, fill, mix and label medications, stock inventory, and complete sales transactions.
• Assisting in Meds-to-Beds service by delivering prescriptions to the bedside.

This is a Full Time (80 hours every two weeks) benefited position, working 8-hour day shifts, between 7am and 7pm, Monday through Friday. Located at Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego. May be asked to cover shifts at Mercy Chula Vista on occasion.

Scripps Pharmacy has four convenient locations on the campuses of Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla, Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas and Scripps Mercy Hospital, San Diego. The pharmacies provide new and refill prescriptions, prescriptions for specialty medications and they can transfer existing prescriptions from our inpatient pharmacies to our three Scripps Pharmacy locations. This Pharmacy Technician will be joining the tight-knit group at Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego.

The Ambulatory Pharmacy Technician is responsible for:

• Performing pharmacy technician duties under the supervision of registered pharmacists.
• Providing appropriate support, based on the assigned patient care setting, for the safe management, processing, distribution, authorization, billing, receiving, stocking, and packaging of prescription, prescription medications and over the counter products.
• Processing refill authorizations, processing and obtaining prior authorizations, obtaining patient medication history, processing and billing prescriptions, contacting insurance for patient coverage and prior authorizations.
• May also pull, fill, mix and label medications, receive, stock and manage medication inventory and completed sales transaction for prescriptions and over the counter medications.
• Assisting in our Meds-to-Beds service, delivering prescriptions to the bedside in the hospital.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Required Certification/Registration:

• Current California Board of Pharmacy Technician License

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification:

• National Pharmacy Tech Certification
• At least 2 years of retail pharmacy experience
