Job Responsibilities
- Prepares and distributes medications, maintains drug inventory, and provides patient care under the direction of a Clinical Pharmacist.
- Fills and delivers medication through Pyxis Med Station RX System. Determines when IVs and minibags are due by making rounds on each nursing unit. Prepares and delivers large volume intravenous mixtures, antibiotic mini bags, and total parental nutrition solutions. Pre-packs bulk medications and compounds ointments, creams, and oral solutions. Sets up and refills crash cart trays. Restocks supplies, solutions, additives, and cleans IV hoods.
- Assists the Clinical Pharmacist in entering new TPN orders, updating the database, and screening telephone calls.
- Provides quality assurance by completing departmental monthly competencies. Updates policies and procedures for JCAHO compliance and maintains monthly logs by recording medication refrigerator temperatures and narcotic inventory verification status. Assists in monthly medical station inspections.
- Communicates with the Clinical Pharmacist to provide precise information when distributing medications in a timely manner to nursing units. Assists in training new employees to ensure optimal pharmaceutical care for patients.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Specifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid state Pharmacy Technician license or Pharmacist Limited license required.
- National Certified Pharmacy Technician affiliation preferred.
- Minimum one-year pharmacy technician experience required.
