Job description

Job Summary

The technician staff fills first doses and batch doses for oral and IV medications, uses aseptic technique in compounding medications, follows all USP 795, 797, and 800 guidelines with respect to cleaning of equipment, and maintains a sterile environment. The technician is expected to document all processes in accordance with USP 795, 797, 800, and the California Board of Pharmacy. This position also provides assistance with technician student training in the Inpatient Pharmacy Services.

Minimum Qualifications

• California Licensed Pharmacy Technician.
• At least 2 years of recent inpatient pharmacy experience.
• Working knowledge of sterile compounding procedures (at least 2 years).
• Knowledge of pharmacy terminology.
• Ability to accurately perform pharmacy calculations.
• Basic knowledge of automatic dispensing machine systems (PYXIS).
• Ability to stand for extended periods, with occasional lifting, stooping, and bending.

Preferred Qualifications

• National board certification (PTCB, ExCPT).
• Certified Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT).
• Completion of an ASHP/ACPE-accredited technician education and training program.
• Prior UCD pharmacy experience.
• Experience with pharmacy EMR system (EPIC), Simplifi797.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements for USP<795>, USP<797>, and USP<800>.
