Overview
Performs technical, clerical, and distributive pharmacy functions under the direction of a licensed pharmacist.
Responsibilities
- Patient Care
- Performs basic calculations for compounding and order processing with accuracy.
- Communicates with patient care units to ensure efficient medication distribution.
- Aseptically prepares total parenteral nutrition solutions, injectable chemotherapy, antibiotics, and other medications for injectable therapy if/when trained.
- Performs bulk compounding and repackaging activities in accordance with pharmacy guidelines (USP795, USP 800, GS1 Supply Chain Standards, local, state, and federal regulations).
- Delivers medications to patient care units and processes returns.
- Processes floor stock including automated distribution and stock carts.
- Fills unit dose carts or ADM for patient medication distribution.
- Provides support to pharmacist staff, including filling orders, answering phones, and preparing labels.
- Restocks pre-hospital care boxes and kits.
- Administrative
- Answers and triages phone calls; reviews voicemail messages; maintains/checks emails.
- Handles ADT (Admission, Discharge, and Transfer) notifications.
- Processes patient charges and credits.
- Distributes and processes controlled substances appropriately.
- Manages wholesale orders to inventory.
- Assists with technician orientation and training.
- Maintains knowledge of downtime procedures.
- Compliance/Safety
- Reports safety incidents promptly; attends safety training; performs work safely; monitors environment for safety issues.
- Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety, including hospital and departmental policies.
- Ensures certifications/licenses are current.
- Completes mandatory modules and job-specific training on time.
- Performs station checks regularly.
- Maintains and enhances knowledge and skills related to pharmacy law and controlled substances.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Certification & Licensure: Licensed with AZ State Board of Pharmacy; Certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
- Experience: 6 months to 1 year preferred.
Note: Proficiency in computer use and basic software is essential due to the technological environment of healthcare.
