Qualifications

Hours for shift: Variable Schedule (7:00am to 3:30pm, 12:30 pm to 9 pm or 3:00pm to 11:30pm)

Summary

Pharmacy Technician I works under the direct supervision of licensed pharmacists providing assistance in compounding (sterile and non-sterile preparations), distribution, and dispensing of medication and other pharmaceutical supplies.

Responsibilities
  1. Replenishes automated drug distribution machines following established procedures.
  2. Troubleshoots machine operation issues and forwards unresolved concerns promptly.
  3. Prepares sterile products under supervision, following standard procedures.
  4. Inputs information into the hospital's pharmacy management system as requested.
  5. Ensures medications and supplies are dispensed following established procedures.
  6. Performs extemporaneous compounding and prepackaging under pharmacist supervision.
  7. Manages medication inventory, checks expiration dates, and rotates stock.
  8. Maintains a neat and organized work area.
  9. Participates in quality improvement activities and data analysis.
  10. Performs monthly reviews and enters data into specialized computer systems.
  11. Attends training and continuing education to maintain competency.
  12. Ensures each preparation is checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing.
  13. Refers clinical questions to a pharmacist and consults when necessary.
  14. Demonstrates service excellence and CARE values.
  15. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Experience & Education
  • 0 to 3 years of related experience generally required.
  • High School diploma required.
Skills & Credentials
  • Ability to analyze, organize, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations professionally.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology and software.
  • Must hold a Registered Pharmacy Technician license (RPT) and be CPHT certified or hold a Pharmacist Intern license (PSI).
Working Conditions

Physical requirements include extended standing, lifting objects up to 100 pounds with devices, and visual acuity for computer tasks. Environmental conditions involve working in a fast-paced hospital setting with potential exposure to infectious diseases, chemicals, and other hazards. PPE must be worn as required.
