Job summary

Native American Rehabilitation Association of the Northwest, Inc. (NARA) is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support safe, accurate pharmacy operations across two Portland locations.

The role includes dispensing, inventory, insurance processing, and patient assistance under licensed pharmacists’ supervision. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and committed to culturally responsive care for Native American/Alaska Native communities and other underserved populations.

Qualifications

  • Pharmacy technician duties under supervision of licensed pharmacists.
  • Ability to prepare, dispense medications and manage pharmacy operations.
  • Familiar with insurance processing and prior authorizations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists in preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications.
  • Demonstrate multitasking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Process prescriptions from entry through dispensing using pharmacy software.
  • Manage inventory and restocking; ensure patient records and insurance data are accurate.
  • Provide customer service and answer prescription questions with cultural sensitivity.

Job description

Title: Pharmacy Technician

Location: Rotating weekly schedule at two Portland locations: NE Hanock, Portland 97212 / E Burnside, Portland 97233; other locations may be required

Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8:30am - 5:00pm. Participation in a rotating late clinic schedule is required; one Friday per month 10:30am-7:30pm.

Overtime: Preapproved OT be requested

Wage Range: $23.00 - $32.00 hourly, non-exempt - Sliding scale based on licensure, see notes below

Position Overview

NARA NW is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to support the safe, accurate, and efficient operation of our pharmacy services. Working under the supervision of licensed pharmacists and pharmacy leadership, this position assists with medication preparation, dispensing, inventory management, patient support, insurance processing, and pharmacy operations.

The ideal candidate is an organized multitasker with strong customer service skills, pharmacy knowledge, and a commitment to providing culturally responsive care. This role supports NARA NW’s mission of serving Native American/Alaska Native communities and other underserved populations with dignity, respect, and compassion.

What You Will Do
  • Assist pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications in compliance with state, federal, and organizational regulations.
  • Demonstrate strong multitasking, problem-solving, pharmacy calculation, and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Master the following: Athena, PionerRx, ScriptPro, MiniMedBank, RapidPak, Medsense
  • Process prescriptions from entry through dispensing using pharmacy software and automation systems.
  • Understand how to separate 340B and non-340B drug inventory systems as well as hazardous and non-hazardous drugs.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, prescription information, insurance data, and pharmacy documentation.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting patients with prescription-related questions and pharmacy services.
  • Process prescription claims, resolve billing issues, communicate with insurance providers, and assist with prior authorizations.
  • Manage pharmacy inventory, medication storage, and restocking activities.
  • Identify and report prescription errors and support quality assurance and patient safety initiatives
  • Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, healthcare providers, clients, and NARA NW team members while maintaining professional boundaries and patient confidentiality
  • Point of Sale, processing claims and trouble shooting and Prior Authorization
  • Support NARA NW's mission by providing respectful, culturally responsive care to Native American, Alaska Native, and underserved populations.
Travel Requirements

Local travel is required for this position. NARA NW fleet vehicles are available for employees. Employees using their own vehicle for transportation between sites during the workday will receive mileage reimbursement.

Pay Scale
  • Pharmacy Tech 1 - No license or experience required - $20 - $23 /hr
  • Pharmacy Tech 2 - OR State licensed; not certified - $23 to $27 /hr
  • Pharmacy Tech 3 - OR State License; PCTB License. Must obtain 340B Certification - $27-$32 /hr
