Job summary

UPMC Senior Communities in the United States is seeking a Pharmacy Technician on a casual, day/night shift. You will handle storage, distribution of drugs, and assist pharmacists.

Responsibilities include filling floor stock, labeling, performing basic calculations, and ensuring accurate orders under pharmacist supervision. Must be registered with the state board of pharmacy. High school diploma or equivalent required with relevant technician program or experience.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required AND one of: accredited pharmacy technician program; six months of pharmacy technician experience; or six months as Pharmacy Technician Assistant within UPMC Health System (enrollment in undergrad pharmacy program also acceptable).

Responsibilities

• Accurately fills floor stock request.
• Prepare correct labeling for bulk drugs.
• Perform basic pharmaceutical calculations.
• Understand stability concepts for parenteral pharmaceuticals.
• Interpret physician orders correctly and distinguish among orders.
• Perform monthly medication storage area inspections.
• Select drugs from stock in proper dose and form under supervision.
• Maintain aseptic technique when preparing sterile products.
• Repackage drugs into unit-dose containers.

Job description

Pharmacy Technician Casual Day/Night shift - must be available for the following hours. 7:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m. / 7:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m. / 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Purpose:

Responsible for the proper storage and distribution of drugs; receives and accounts for drugs coming from all vendors. Delivers drugs to patient care and other areas; picks up drug returns and applicable paperwork; and puts all returned unit-dose products back to proper receipts. Responsible for filling patient drug boxes, floor stock orders and automated dispensing cabinets. Assists Pharmacists as directed. Maintains daily report.

Responsibilities:

• Accurately fills floor stock request.
• Prepare correct labeling for bulk drugs.
• Perform basic pharmaceutical calculations.
• Basic understanding of concept of physical stability and chemical stability as it relates to parenteral pharmaceuticals.
• Correctly interpret physician orders and can distinguish between pharmaceutical orders, laboratory tests, radiology, nursing and other orders.
• Perform monthly medication storage area inspections.
• Selects drugs from stock in proper dose, dosage form and quantity as ordered by physician under direct supervision of a pharmacist.
• Understands microbial contamination and exhibits Aseptic Technique while preparing sterile pharmaceutical products.
• Repackages drugs into unit of use container.

Qualifications:

Education and Formal Training Required:

• Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required AND one of the following:
  • Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program
  • Six months of previous pharmacy technician experience
  • Six months experience as a Pharmacy Technician Assistant or Trainee within the UPMC Health SystemEnrollment in an undergraduate pharmacy program and in good standing

Experience Required:

• Must be familiar with typewriter keyboard and demonstrate the ability by producing a neat, accurate and legible copy.
• Individual must have ability to adapt to the computerized Pharmacy Information Systems utilized. I ndividual must demonstrate initiative and good judgment.

Previous pharmacy experience preferred, must be registered with the state board of pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician
