Job Description

The Medically Integrated Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supporting the operations of the medically integrated pharmacy within the healthcare setting. This includes assisting with medication dispensing, inventory management, patient education, and coordination with healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient care. The technician will collaborate with the pharmacist in charge, nurses, and physicians to provide comprehensive medication support to patients undergoing treatment. Strong communication, customer service, and time management skills are required, along with proficiency in Microsoft applications and electronic health record (EHR) systems.

The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in dispensing and preparing medications under the supervision of the pharmacist in charge, ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate with healthcare providers, the pharmacist in charge, and patients to ensure medication therapy aligns with treatment plans.
  • Educate patients on proper medication usage, potential side effects, and adherence strategies.
  • Process prescription orders, verify insurance coverage, and assist with financial assistance programs for patients.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records within the electronic health record (EHR) system and pharmacy management system.
  • Work closely with clinical staff to monitor patient medication adherence and proactively address potential barriers.
  • Manage inventory, including ordering, stocking, and tracking medication levels to prevent shortages or overstocking.
  • Assist in medication reconciliation and prior authorization processes when needed.
  • Ensure all pharmacy operations comply with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements, maintaining the confidentiality of all PHI.
  • Provide customer service support by answering patient inquiries regarding medications, refills, and insurance coverage.
  • Assist in resolving medication-related issues and liaise with payers and providers to expedite patient access to treatment.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and workflow optimization efforts within the medically integrated pharmacy.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • At least 1 year of pharmacy-related experience in a retail, specialty, hospital, or medically integrated pharmacy setting.
  • At least 1 year of customer service experience in a healthcare-related field.
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician within the state of Florida or PTCB Certification required.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and ability to learn new software applications, including EHR and pharmacy management systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy operations, medication handling, and dispensing procedures.
  • Familiarity with insurance processing, prior authorizations, and patient assistance programs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve medication access issues.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in processing medication orders and maintaining records.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Positive attitude with a commitment to excellent customer service and patient care.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain professionalism in stressful situations.
Work Environment / Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or walking in a healthcare environment.
  • Manual dexterity to handle medications, operate pharmacy equipment, and input data into the system.
  • Frequent interaction with patients, providers, and the pharmacist in charge.
  • Occasional lifting of pharmacy supplies or medication stock.
  • Compliance with all safety and regulatory guidelines.
