We are hiring a part-time Pharmacy Technician.
Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician will support pharmacy operations by accurately preparing, dispensing, and managing medications while ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. Under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, this position performs essential technical, clerical, and inventory control tasks. This position supports a dually licensed department operating under both a Class II Institutional Permit and a Special Limited Community Permit. The Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in replenishing automated dispensing devices, executing discharge medication packaging, and optimizing medication distribution workflows across the hospital
- Perform delegable tasks within the pharmacy technician scope of practice under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
- Package, prepare, label, and distribute medications accurately across hospital and community pharmacy settings.
- Enter prescription data into pharmacy software systems with high accuracy and efficiency.
- Compound sterile IV admixtures using aseptic techniques, ensuring strict compliance with USP <797> and USP <800> standards.
- Perform precise pharmaceutical calculations to determine correct dosages for diverse patient populations (neonatal to geriatric).
- Manage medication inventory by accurately replenishing Automated Dispensing Cabinets across nursing units, anesthesia stations, and emergency kits/carts and maintaining proper storage standards.
- Isolate expired, damaged, or recalled medications for safe waste disposal or reverse distribution.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment in accordance with safe medication handling protocols.
- Perform general clerical duties and quality control activities on schedule.
- Provide excellent customer service by safely addressing inquiries and verifying prescriptions while strictly maintaining HIPAA confidentiality.
- Assist in training and onboarding new pharmacy employees, interns, and staff.
Qualifications
- Current licensure as a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) in Florida, required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire, and maintain continuously thereafter, required.
- High school diploma or GED certificate, required.
- Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of state and federal pharmacy laws, pharmaceutical regulations, and HIPAA confidentiality mandates.
- Technical Operations: Proficiency with pharmacy software systems, accurate data entry, and strict quality control processes.
- Clinical Concepts: Strong command of medical and pharmacological terminology across both community and acute/hospital care settings.
- Compounding Skills: Hands-on experience with IV infusion preparation, sterile compounding, and aseptic techniques.
- Mathematical Proficiency: Ability to perform complex pharmaceutical and dosage calculations accurately and efficiently.
- Patient & Provider Relations: Excellent customer service skills with the ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or staff professionally.
- Workflow Optimization: Ability to manage multiple simultaneous responsibilities, prioritize workflows, and complete tasks accurately under tight deadlines.
- Team & Independent Execution: Proven ability to work collaboratively in high-pressure team environments as well as independently with minimal supervision.
