Job summary

Qualifications

  • Experience with pharmaceutical calculations, weighing, measuring and mixing.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to follow detailed formulas, SOPs and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Professional communication with pharmacists and other technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accuracy and consistency throughout the compounding process.
  • Conduct in-process checks and communicate discrepancies to the pharmacist.

Position Overview

Non‑Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician

LA Compounding Pharmacy | Los Angeles, CA | Full-Time | In‑Person

The Non‑Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician will work closely with our pharmacists and pharmacy team to prepare customized medications accurately, efficiently and in accordance with established procedures, master formulations, pharmacy policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

This position is primarily focused on hands‑on non‑sterile compounding and laboratory operations.

We are looking for someone who already understands the fundamentals of compounding and can contribute to the lab with minimal day‑to‑day supervision while continuing to learn and develop their skills.

Key Responsibilities
Non‑Sterile Compounding
  • Prepare customized non‑sterile medications under pharmacist supervision.
  • Compound a variety of dosage forms including capsules, creams, ointments, gels, solutions, suspensions, powders, troches and other formulations.
  • Accurately calculate, weigh, measure, triturate, mix and prepare ingredients according to approved formulations and procedures.
  • Follow Master Formulation Records, Compounding Records and established pharmacy SOPs.
  • Maintain accuracy and consistency throughout the compounding process.
  • Perform appropriate in‑process checks and communicate any discrepancies to the pharmacist.
  • Package and label compounded preparations accurately.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Complete compounding records, batch records, logs and required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Follow applicable USP <795> requirements and pharmacy policies.
  • Follow appropriate procedures for hazardous drugs and USP <800> requirements when applicable to assigned duties.
  • Maintain proper cleaning, sanitation and organization of the compounding laboratory.
  • Follow all pharmacy SOPs, safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Immediately report errors, discrepancies, damaged ingredients, equipment concerns or other quality issues to the pharmacist.
Laboratory & Inventory
  • Maintain organized compounding workstations and equipment.
  • Clean and maintain compounding equipment according to established procedures.
  • Assist with inventory management of active pharmaceutical ingredients, excipients, containers and supplies.
  • Check expiration dates and storage requirements.
  • Assist with receiving, organizing and properly storing laboratory materials.
  • Help maintain efficient laboratory workflow.
Teamwork & Workflow
  • Work closely with pharmacists and technicians to keep prescription production moving efficiently.
  • Communicate clearly with the pharmacy team regarding prescription status, priorities and potential delays.
  • Assist other pharmacy areas when needed while maintaining primary responsibility for assigned laboratory duties.
  • Help identify workflow problems and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain a professional, respectful and team‑oriented workplace.
Required Qualifications
  • Active California Pharmacy Technician registration in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PTCB/CPhT certification.
  • Experience with USP <795> requirements.
  • USP <800> experience or training.
  • Experience with PioneerRx or similar pharmacy software.
  • Experience with capsule machines, ointment mills, balances, mixers or other compounding equipment.
  • Experience with HRT, dermatology, women's/men's health, pain management, veterinary or other specialty compounding.
  • Previous experience in a high‑volume compounding pharmacy.
