Job summary

OneOncology is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the In-Office Dispensary (IOD) by stocking, assembling, and distributing medications under supervision.

The role requires attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to navigate payor authorizations, patient information, and insurance processes while delivering compassionate care.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or GED required.
• At least three years Pharmacy Technician experience preferred.
• State Board approved Pharmacy Technician training or ASHP accreditation required.
• Arizona: PTCE/PTCB certification if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Manage payor prior authorizations.
• Assist with patient access to medications with foundation funding team.
• Provide a professional first impression and compassionate service.
• Process prescriptions electronically and ensure accuracy.
• Collect patient insurance and demographic information.
• Maintain proper drug storage and security.
• Respond to inquiries from patients and providers promptly.
• Retrieve, pour, count, label, and reconstitute medications.
• Prepare medications for delivery and file prescriptions.
• Order and count stock; enter inventory data into the system.
• Clean and maintain equipment and work areas; sterilize glassware.
• Prepare and process insurance claim forms.
• Complete reports and share with team members when required.
• Ensure medication recalls are handled per regulations.
• Check expiration dates and returns as applicable.
• Maintain logs for inventory, HIPAA, and related tasks.
• Record payments accurately in the system.

Job Description

The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supporting pharmacological services for the In-Office Dispensary (IOD) by stocking, assembling, and distributing medications. Provides support for the office independently and with minimal supervision. Performs other diverse duties as requested or required under the general and direct supervision of the manager.

Responsibilities

• Manage payor prior authorizations.
• Work with both the patient and foundation funding team to ensure access to medications as needed.
• To create a positive and professional first impression for the practice and to show the patients a “we care” attitude.
• Process prescriptions electronically and ensure prescription information is accurate and complete.
• Collect patient insurance and demographic information, including allergies and comorbidities.
• Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
• Respond to patients and healthcare providers requests, answering their questions and referring various inquiries to the applicable staff in a timely and sensitive manner.
• Retrieves, pours, counts, labels, and reconstitutes prescription medications.
• Transfer medication from vials to the appropriate number of sterile, disposable syringes using aseptic techniques. Pack all medications for delivery to the appropriate location. Price and file prescriptions that have been filled.
• Order, label, and count stock of medications, chemicals, and supplies, and enter inventory data into computer.
• Clean and help maintain equipment and work areas and sterilize glassware according to prescribed methods.
• Prepare and process medical insurance claim forms and records.
• Complete reports and send them to applicable team members as required.
• Ensure all medication recalls are completed according to rules and regulations.
• Check all inventory for the appropriate expiration date and return when applicable.
• Maintains logs for registering, return to stock, credits, HIPAA, no safety caps waivers, vouchers/grants, inventory, and special assignments.
• Receive payments for prescriptions dispensed and log payments accurately into system.
• Additional responsibilities may be assigned to help drive our mission of delivering high-quality and compassionate cancer care in our community, for our community, and by providers who live in our community.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of three (3) years Pharmacy Technician experience preferred.
• All states except Arizona: Applicants must complete a pharmacy technician training program that the State Board of Pharmacy approves in the state you are in or accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
• Arizona Only: Register with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician trainee and pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) or become nationally certified through the PTCB and register with the State Board as a pharmacy technician.

Physical Requirements For The Job

• Regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods.
• Involves standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and twisting.
• Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
• Frequently lift and or move up to 25 pounds.
