Job summary

Emory Healthcare in Decatur, Alabama is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the pharmacy team. Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, you will procure, prepare, package, and distribute medications, maintain inventory, and ensure product integrity while following USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines.

Shift: 8p-6:30a. The role requires a CPhT certification, ASHP-accredited training, and active Georgia registration; 6 months of experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
• ASHP-accredited technician training program completion or enrollment preferred.
• 6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
• Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
• Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.

Responsibilities

• Procures, prepares, packages, distributes and disposes medications and supplies to assist in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients.
• Maintains an established inventory of drugs and supplies; re-orders and stocks items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability.
• Follows departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products.
• Operates, troubleshoots, monitors, and cleans departmental automation and equipment.
• Ensures Pharmacist product verification and timely distribution of medications to maintain product integrity.
• Maintains accurate records and patient profiles including charging and crediting.
• Answers phones, receives and distributes messages, and triages requests appropriately.
• Manages time and prioritizes tasks to ensure timely and safe patient care.
• Assists with operational support functions including housekeeping and cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards.
• Conducts regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements.
• Makes sure to follow OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines to safely handle hazardous and non-hazardous products.
• Participates in professional activities to stay current with trends and developments.
• Completes required training and competency assessments in a timely fashion.
• Attends in-services as appropriate.
• Assists in orientation and training of new personnel.
• May serve as a resource for less experienced staff and provide guidance on pharmacy techniques and policies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
• Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional‑related school preferred.
• 6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP‑accredited tech training program preferred.
• Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
