Job summary

Charles River Community Health in Massachusetts seeks a Pharmacy Technician to support the pharmacy team with preparation, dispensing and billing of prescriptions for CRCH patients.

This role offers per diem, non-exempt status with flexible shifts, and opportunities to learn EPIC while collaborating with clinicians across our clinics. Candidates may be eligible for growth and ongoing training.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Active MA Pharmacy Technician Registration required.
  • Experience in retail community pharmacy preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service and assist patients promptly and compassionately.
  • Assist in the preparation and dispensing of prescription medications under supervision.
  • Maintain patient records and prescription information in the pharmacy system.
  • Answer phone calls in a professional manner.
  • Take stock bottles, reconstitute prescriptions, label containers and prepare unit-dose cards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy or designee.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Pharmacy

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

SALARY RANGE: $21 - $27 / hr

As part of a dynamic team at Charles River Community Health (CRCH), a healthcare practice providing compassionate care to underserved communities, the Pharmacy Technician will play a key role in assisting the pharmacy team in the preparation, billing and dispensing of prescription and OTC medications to CRCH Pharmacy patients. CRCH Pharmacies are on‑site pharmacies designed to provide exceptional outpatient pharmacy services to CRCH and community patients.

  • Late morning/early evenings weekday shifts and 4‑hour morning shifts every other Saturday where you can make a difference in a community setting.
  • Less scripts than most retail pharmacies leaving room for more impactful patient interaction.

Your Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional personal customer service and accommodate patient needs in a timely, efficient, and caring manner.
  • Assist in the preparation and dispensing of prescription medications while maintaining productivity as well as regulatory and quality standards.
  • Maintain patient records and prescription information using a pharmacy computer system.
  • Perform duties in an accurate, timely, knowledgeable, thorough, and complete manner.
  • Answer telephone calls in a timely, professional manner.
  • Under the direction and supervision of the pharmacist on duty:
  • Take stock bottles from the shelf for prescriptions.
  • Reconstitute prescriptions.
  • Label prescription containers.
  • Prepare unit‑dose, modified unit‑dose, and medication cards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy or designee.
Your Qualifications, Competencies, Traits
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Active MA Pharmacy Technician Registration required.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician licensed by passing the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills and excellent customer service skills required.
  • Must be flexible and be able to work different schedules to meet the needs of the pharmacy and organization. (Pharmacy hours are 8:30am - 7:00pm Mon, Tues, Wed, and Thurs; 8:30am – 5:00pm Fri, and 8:30am – 1:00pm Sat)
  • Demonstrate competent working knowledge of pharmacy claims adjudication.
  • Must be able to work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Possess ability to troubleshoot and solve problems preferred.
  • Must be organized and able to prioritize tasks preferred.
  • Must be adaptable, with a willingness to learn new responsibilities preferred.
  • Prior recent experience (1‑2 yrs) in a retail community setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of 340B Drug Pricing Program preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • PioneerRX Experience preferred but not required.
  • Must have a willingness to work flexible hours to meet the organization's needs/demands.
  • Must be able to travel to either Charles River Community Health site (Brighton and Waltham) as needed.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, particularly with people from diverse cultures, with the ability to understand the community, population, and patients we serve.
  • Must have experience in diverse cultures, with strong commitment to promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and reducing inequities.
