Job summary

Northwell Health in New York is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist the Pharmacist in preparing, dispensing, labeling, and packaging medications in a hospital setting.

You will help maintain IV and other medication records, manage unit dose carts, and ensure inventory levels at workstations, while supporting ADS and related systems. Strong attention to detail, computer literacy, and physical stamina are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of a recognized Pharmacy Technician Training Program or equivalent pharmacy experience.
  • Current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required.
  • Minimum of two years' hospital pharmacy experience with a computerized system preferred.
  • Ability to learn a computerized hospital pharmacy system and perform physically strenuous work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in non-professional aspects of preparing and dispensing medication.
  • Fill, package, label and stock unit dose cart; deliver to nursing unit according to schedule.
  • Fill bottles or other packaging forms with measured amounts of medication.
  • Label containers of drugs per department specifications.
  • Assist in sterile compounding and labeling of IV additives when required.
  • Fill inpatient medication orders and extemporaneous packaging as needed.
  • Maintain IV records and inpatient medication records under Pharmacist direction.
  • Maintain inventory at workstations; support ADS and inventory control.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Job Description

Assists in the preparation, manufacturing and repackaging of medications. Assists in maintaining records and reports. Maintains sufficient inventories at workstations.

Job Responsibility
  • * Assists Registered Pharmacist in the non-professional (non-judgmental) aspects of preparing and dispensing medication.
    • Fills, packages, labels and stocks unit dose cart from patient profile card or computerized pick list; brings cart to nursing unit according to predetermined schedule. Makes other deliveries, as required.
    • Fills bottles or other package forms with measured amount of medication either manually or mechanically.
    • Labels containers of drugs according to department specification, either manually or mechanically.
    • Assists in clean air room, using sterile technique in filling and labeling injectable prescriptions, where required.
    • Assists in preparation and/or labeling of IV additives.
    • Fills medication orders in inpatient area.
    • Responsible for extemporaneous medication packaging, as required.
    • Fills pharmacy trays as required
  • * Assists Registered Pharmacist in maintaining a variety of records and reports.
    • Maintains IV records with Pharmacist direction.
    • Maintains records for medication in inpatient area.
    • Maintains records of preparation of extemporaneous medications.
    • Assists in the maintenance of statistics and records for all medication orders.
    • Enters orders into computer terminal for refill purposes.
  • * Maintains sufficient inventory at workstations in Pharmacy.
    • Transports required pharmacy material, as necessary.
    • Receives and maintains records of stock and inventory control.
    • Assists in maintaining the Automated Dispensing System (ADS)
    • Assists in material control by maintaining records and inventories.
    • Maintains placement of sufficient daily inventory of supplies to all areas of Pharmacy to assure efficient operating conditions.
  • Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Graduate of a recognized Pharmacy Technician Training Program or equivalent pharmacy experience.
  • Current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT), required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy with a computerized system, preferred.
  • Ability to learn computerized hospital pharmacy system.
  • Must be able to do physically strenuous work
