Job summary

Northwell Health in New York is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support the inpatient pharmacy. You will assist the Pharmacist in non-professional duties, prepare and dispense medications, label and package unit doses, and help maintain accurate IV and inventory records.

The role involves handling sterile products, computer entry for refills, and ensuring adequate daily stock across pharmacy workstations. Physical stamina is required for routine duties in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduate of a recognized Pharmacy Technician Training Program or equivalent pharmacy experience.
  • Current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) is required.
  • Minimum of two years experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy with a computerized system is preferred.
  • Must be able to do physically strenuous work.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Registered Pharmacist in non-professional aspects of preparing and dispensing medication.
  • Fills, packages, labels and stocks unit dose cart and delivers to nursing units.
  • Labels containers of drugs according to department specifications.
  • Assists in sterile compounding and IV labeling when required.
  • Maintains IV records and records for medications in inpatient area.
  • Enters orders into computer for refills; maintains inventory at workstations.
  • Transports pharmacy materials and maintains ADS and records of inventory.

Job Description
Job Responsibility
  1. * Assists Registered Pharmacist in the non-professional (non-judgmental) aspects of preparing and dispensing medication.
    • Fills, packages, labels and stocks unit dose cart from patient profile card or computerized pick list; brings cart to nursing unit according to predetermined schedule. Makes other deliveries, as required.
    • Fills bottles or other package forms with measured amount of medication either manually or mechanically.
    • Labels containers of drugs according to department specification, either manually or mechanically.
    • Assists in clean air room, using sterile technique in filling and labeling injectable prescriptions, where required.
    • Assists in preparation and/or labeling of IV additives.
    • Fills medication orders in inpatient area.
    • Responsible for extemporaneous medication packaging, as required.
    • Fills pharmacy trays as required
  2. * Assists Registered Pharmacist in maintaining a variety of records and reports.
    • Maintains IV records with Pharmacist direction.
    • Maintains records for medication in inpatient area.
    • Maintains records of preparation of extemporaneous medications.
    • Assists in the maintenance of statistics and records for all medication orders.
    • Enters orders into computer terminal for refill purposes.
    • Maintains sufficient inventory at workstations in Pharmacy.
    • Transports required pharmacy material, as necessary.
    • Receives and maintains records of stock and inventory control.
    • Assists in maintaining the Automated Dispensing System (ADS)
    • Assists in material control by maintaining records and inventories.
    • Maintains placement of sufficient daily inventory of supplies to all areas of Pharmacy to assure efficient operating conditions.
  3. * Performs related duties, as required.

  • Current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT), required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital pharmacy with a computerized system, preferred.
  • Ability to learn computerized hospital pharmacy system.
  • Must be able to do physically strenuous work
