POSITION SUMMARY

The Pharmacy Technician III effectively delivers advanced proficiency and efficiency in pharmacy services such as but not limited to; sterile compounding (IVs), Medication History reconciliation, and the management of the Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) system (e.g., Pyxis). The Pharmacy Technician III conducts inventory analysis monitors for inconsistencies, and acts as a subject matter expert (SME) and resource on the Pharmacy Systems. The Pharmacy Technician III continuously supports the learning and development of pharmacy Associates, ensuring full training and coaching is delivered to support professional growth.

The Pharmacy Technician III conducts inventory analysis monitors for inconsistencies, and acts as a subject matter expert (SME) and resource on the Pharmacy Systems. The Pharmacy Technician III continuously supports the learning and development of pharmacy Associates, ensuring full training and coaching is delivered to support professional growth.

Primary Accountabilities

• Helps maintain regulatory compliance standards, ensuring Associate adherence in the preparation of sterile and non-sterile compounded medications in accordance with United States Pharmacopeia (USP) requirements.
• Prepares sterile and non-sterile compounded medications in accordance with United States Pharmacopeia (USP) standards.
• Maintains ADC systems, by tracking and monitoring any issues or discrepancies, while supporting diversion controls, and helps to resolve system problems, through performing troubleshooting techniques.
• Mentors and delivers instruction to pharmacy Associates, supporting cross-functional training for continued growth and development, coaching through any opportunities for process or workflow improvement.
• Works with leadership to monitor prescribed medication usage to implement and execute contingency planning, and drug shortage mitigation and redistribution.
• Supports implementation and improvement of pharmacy automation systems, educating and training Associates of updates and changes, supporting continuous quality and workflow improvement.
• Serves as pharmacy systems subject matter expert, leading systems upgrades while resolving issues through troubleshooting in partnership with pharmacy leadership.
• Engages in and supports projects related to pharmacy operations, workflows, best practice, and operational initiatives.
• Assists with ensuring Associates adherence to departmental and organizational policies and procedures, as well as established pharmacy workflows and safety protocols, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements from State of Florida and Federal agencies; such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Work Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Work Experience: Two (2) years’ experience in inpatient pharmacy setting, including automation.
• Licensure: Registered Pharmacy Technician licensure in the State of Florida.
• Certification: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Health Career Association (NHA) prior to start date and maintained.
• Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
• Advanced competency in sterile/non-sterile compounding and related tasks, to be demonstrated through completion of advanced courses and proven proficiency in pharmacy workflows.
• Demonstrates strong critical thinking in areas such as automation, workflow standardization, and inventory control.
• Takes initiative to address and resolve concerns involving but not limited to, staffing, workflow, delegation of tasks, while maintaining composure.
• Able to grow in and collaborate with others effectively to achieve departmental and organizational objectives, ensuring exceptional service delivery while maintaining the highest standards of patient and associate safety.
• Availability to work long and irregular hours; includes evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office – Teams, Outlook, Word.
• Computer skills to support distribution systems.
• Ability to work independently, while ensuring accuracy in all work functions performed.
• Demonstrates patience, positive attitude, cooperation, critical-thinking skills, and analytical skills.
• Must be organized and maintain good communications skills.
• Able to perform multiple tasks at one time, while demonstrating good listening, and good social skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Work Experience:
• One (1) year experience performing sterile compounding.
• Three (3) years’ experience in pharmacy.

Physical Requirements

• Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently.
• May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
• May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead.
• May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
• May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise.
• May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
• Workspace may vary from open to confined.
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
