This will be supporting the Drug and Automation management within the Westlake Ambulatory Surgery Center*

Sign on bonus: $3,000!

A Brief Overview

The Pharmacy Technician 3 is accountable for assisting pharmacists in the retrieval, processing, preparation, and distribution of medications for patient administration. The Technician 3 functions in all aspects of drug distribution that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. All activities are performed under the supervision of a Pharmacist. The Technician 3 is responsible for interviewing, onboarding, and/or orienting new or current staff on the daily duties and operations of the pharmacy.

What You Will Do
  • For Inpatient Pharmacy Tech 3: activities include but are not limited to: accurate preparation of patient medications including non-sterile products, sterile products (including chemotherapy and TPN); accurate and timely delivery of patient-specific medications; inventories, replenishes, and maintains drug stock; orients and trains new staff; educates staff on process improvement and safety initiatives; serves as a mentor and develops role models for technical staff; compliance with Technician Ladder assignments.
  • For Outpatient Pharmacy Tech 3: activities include but are not limited to: utilizing pharmacy systems to process prescriptions, including insurance adjudication and prior authorization submittal; accurately preparing dangerous drugs for dispensing including counting, pouring, labeling, and performing non-sterile drug compounding and reconstitution; inventory management including par levels, order review and submission, returns processing, recall management, and outdates process oversight; providing direction to technician staff on day-to-day operations; performing extensive trainer duties with new hires and technician trainees; extensive buyer duties including purchasing, invoice processing, cost transferring, and specialized ordering.
  • For Medication History Pharmacy Tech 3: activities include but are not limited to: supporting medication history collection for ED and inpatient units; communicating effectively with patients during interviews; accurately recording medication history; maintaining open communication with hospital staff; and performing duties similar to those in the Inpatient Pharmacy Technician role.
  • For Infusion Pharmacy Tech 3: activities align with Inpatient Technician Essential Functions.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Refers to departmental documentation during orientation for specific duties.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI); includes annual training, adherence to the UH Code of Conduct, and UH policies and procedures regarding PHI.
