Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a Pharmacy Tech II/III to assist pharmacists in preparing medications for patient use, including oral and parenteral forms. You will support medication distribution, documentation, billing, and inventory management in an inpatient setting.

Depending on experience and licensure, the role may be filled at Tech II or Tech III level. The position requires CA-PTCB and Board of Pharmacy licensure and inpatient pharmacy experience.

Qualifications

• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) by PTCB required for Pharmacy Tech III.
• Pharmacy Technician License issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy required for both Tech II/III.
• Minimum of two (2) years inpatient Pharmacy Tech experience (Tech II).
• Minimum of five (5) years inpatient Pharmacy Tech experience (Tech III).
• Knowledge of pharmacy terminology and calculations.
• Strong computer experience and accurate data entry skills.
• Excellent detail and organizational skills to sort, file and retrieve information.
• Demonstrated ability to manage assigned workload within deadlines.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.

DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of the Pharmacy Manager and/or Supervisor, the Pharmacy Tech II/III position assists the pharmacist in the preparation of medications for patient use (oral and parenteral) according to established procedures; assists in the distribution of medications, record keeping, and billing functions; maintains inventory levels; performs assigned operational duties in a scheduled area and will assist pharmacists in completing medication orders and related distribution duties in the assigned areas. The Pharmacy Tech II/III may also assist the pharmacist in performing best possible medication histories for patients.

Depending on experience and licensure of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the Pharmacy Tech level II or level III.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) issued by PTCB required for Pharmacy Tech III.
• Pharmacy Technician License issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy required for both Pharmacy Tech II/III.

• Three (3) years of experience in an inpatient hospital setting.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $65,918 - $81,975 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $31.57 - $39.26
