Job summary

Chesapeake Regional Healthcare in Chesapeake, VA is seeking a qualified Pharmacy Technician to support the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager in delivering prompt patient service. You will perform prescription entry, label creation, inventory tasks, and ensure compliance with state and federal laws.

Responsibilities include processing new and refill prescriptions, assisting with pharmacy department organization, and participating in orientation and training.

Qualifications

• Must be certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or obtain certification within 6 months of hire date.
• Minimum 2+ years of experience as Pharmacy Technician.

Responsibilities

• Perform all functions of a Pharmacy Technician to ensure prompt service.
• Enter prescription information into the computer: patient search, prescriber search, drug selection, billing, and issue resolution.
• Process new and refill prescriptions and obtain refill authorizations when allowed by state law.
• Retrieve medications from inventory and prepare labels for containers.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the Pharmacy Department.
• Assist with inventory management, including order reviews and stock replenishment.
• Attend hospital-wide orientations and required trainings.
• Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling to support patient care.

Job description

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager with serving customers and maintaining the Pharmacy Department. The Pharmacy Technician is required to perform all tasks in a safe manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws.

The duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.

• Perform all functions and duties of a Pharmacy Technician to ensure prompt service in the Pharmacy Department.
• Perform computer entry of prescription information including, but not limited to: patient search, prescriber search, drug selection, prescription interpretation and entry, insurance billing, and basic problem resolution.
• Accept customer and prescription information required to process new and refill prescriptions, including refill authorizations from doctor offices where permitted by state law.
• Retrieve the appropriate medication from inventory where permitted by state law.
• Create prescription labels and place them on prescription containers where permitted by state law.
• Assist with maintaining the Pharmacy Department by keeping it clean and in order.
• Assist in inventory management processes including order review, inventory returns, restocking shelves, and physical inventory preparation.
• Reconstitute oral liquids where permitted by state law.
• Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services.
• Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care.
• Complete new tasks as assigned.

Minimum Required Education:

Must be certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or obtain certification within 6 months of hire date, and provide documentation that certification is completed within the required time frame.

Preferred Education:

Successful completion of a pharmacy technician program preferred.

Experience:

Minimum 2+ years of experience required.

Certifications

• Applicant must be registered with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician.
• Complete all Chesapeake Regional Healthcare training modules relative to a Pharmacy Technician.
