Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist pharmacists in preparing medications for patient use in our outpatient pharmacies. The role includes order entry, inventory maintenance, and coordination of reimbursement and authorizations, within a high-volume environment.

Qualified candidates will have 2–5 years of retail pharmacy tech experience and hold a CA State Board of Pharmacy license, with strong communication and data-entry skills.

Qualifications

• Must have 2 - 5 years of retail Pharmacy Tech experience.
• Pharmacy Technician License issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.
• Knowledge of pharmacy terminology and calculations.
• Computer experience and accurate data entry skills.
• Detail and organizational skills to sort, file and retrieve information.
• Ability to work in a self-directed work team environment and function effectively in a high-volume, multiple demand environment.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and articulate complex ideas for all levels of audiences.
• Be a self-starter who is accountable and requires minimal direction and supervision; a person who is open to new ideas; and a creative and flexible individual.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in preparing medications for patient use (oral and parenteral).
• Distribute medications and perform computer order entry, record keeping, and billing tasks.
• Maintain inventory levels and support claims for reimbursement and prior authorizations for prescriptions from outpatient pharmacies.
• Support various operational duties in assigned areas and assist pharmacists with medication orders and distribution.
