Pharmacy Technician II – Corporate Pharmacy (Open)
Support pharmacists in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care across Carilion Clinic settings, including sterile and non-sterile compounding, inventory management, and medication safety reporting.
Responsibilities
- Process and fill prescriptions for retail, mail order, specialty, and infusion services.
- Package and ship medications using delivery services.
- Prepare anesthesia trays, narcotic boxes, and floor stock.
- Perform sterile IV admixture and non-sterile compounding per USP guidelines.
- Repackage medications into unit-of-use formats and maintain compounding equipment and documentation.
- Order, receive, and store medications and supplies while evaluating backorders and assisting with shortage resolution.
- Maintain cost‑accounting records and inventory levels, monitor controlled substance usage, and reconcile discrepancies.
- Maintain pharmacy records for regulatory compliance and review medication error and adverse drug reaction reports.
- Support medication safety committees and reporting systems.
- Assist patients with medication access and affordability through financial coordination and assistance programs.
- Manage inventory, billing, and regulatory compliance across multiple pharmacy sites and clinical departments.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely medication delivery, accurate documentation, and high‑quality patient service.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an approved Pharmacy Technician training course preferred.
- One to two years of pharmacy experience required.
- Registration with the Virginia Department of Health Professionals required.
- Pharmacy Technician Certified Board Certification relevant to the work area required within six months of hire.
- Must be able to maintain familiarity with 1,000‑2,000 medications and focus on attention to detail and accuracy.
- Customer service orientation; proficiency with general office equipment and procedures, including computer/keyboard use.
- Ability to solve simple mathematical and logistical problems, budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimal supervision.
