Job summary

Carilion Clinic's CRMH Lobby Pharmacy is seeking a Pharmacy Tech II to join a busy operation. You will process and fill prescriptions for retail, mail order, specialty, and infusion, and help ensure accurate medication delivery to patients.

You will package medications, prepare anesthesia trays, and perform sterile and non-sterile compounding per USP guidelines, while maintaining documentation and inventory integrity. A strong focus on safety and service is essential.

Qualifications

• Education: high school diploma or equivalent required.
• Pharmacy Technician training course preferred.
• Pharmacy Service Line competencies within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Processes and fills prescriptions (retail, mail order, specialty, infusion).
• Packages and ships medications using delivery services.
• Prepares anesthesia trays, narcotic boxes, and floor stock.
• Performs sterile IV admixture and non-sterile compounding per USP guidelines.
• Repackages medications into unit-of-use formats.
• Maintains compounding equipment and documentation.
• Orders, receives, and stores medications and supplies.
• Evaluates backorders and assists with shortage resolution.
• Maintains cost‑accounting records and inventory levels.
• Monitors controlled substance usage and reconciles discrepancies.
• Maintains pharmacy records for regulatory compliance.
• Reviews medication error and adverse drug reaction reports.
• Supports medication safety committees and reporting systems.
• Supports medication access and affordability through patient advocacy, financial coordination, and assistance program facilitation.
• Manages inventory, billing, and regulatory compliance across multiple pharmacy sites and clinical departments.
• Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely medication delivery, accurate documentation, and high‑quality patient service.

Facility: 1906 Belleview Ave SE - Roanoke CP12 Carilion Medical Center.

Qualifications

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Successful completion of an approved Pharmacy Technician training course is preferred. Successful completion of Pharmacy Service Line competencies within 6 months of hire.

Experience: 1 to 2 years of pharmacy experience required.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Registration with the Virginia Department of Health Professionals required. Pharmacy Technician Certified Board Certification relevant to work area is required within 6 months of hire.

Other Minimum Qualifications:

• Maintain familiarity with a large number (1000‑2000) of medications and focus on attention to detail/accuracy.
• Customer service oriented.
• Knowledge and use of general office equipment and procedures, including computer/keyboard.
• Ability to solve simple mathematical and logistical problems in the work environment.
• Ability to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision.

Benefits & Compensation

Compensation Range: $21.61 - $30.25 per hour. Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
