Job summary

University Hospitals Pain Management is seeking a Pharmacy Technician I to assist pharmacists in retrieval, processing, preparation, and distribution of medications for patient administration. This role supports inpatient, outpatient, medication history, and infusion pharmacy functions under pharmacist supervision.

• Accurate and timely delivery of patient specific medications.
• Inventory, replenishes, and maintains drug stock.
• Process prescriptions with insurance adjudication and prepare dangerous drugs for dispensing including counting, labeling, and non-sterile drug compounding and reconstitution.
• Infusion Pharmacy Tech duties align with inpatient technician functions.
• Support medication history collection for ED and inpatient units, interviewing patients and recording medication histories.

A Brief Overview

The Pharmacy Technician 1 is accountable for assisting pharmacists in the retrieval, processing, preparation and distribution of medications for patient administration. The Technician 1 functions in all aspects of drug distribution that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. All assigned activities are performed under the supervision of a Pharmacist.

What You Will Do

• For Inpatient Pharmacy Tech 1, activities as permitted by licensure include but are not limited to:
  Accurate preparation of patient medications, including non-sterile products.
  Accurate and timely delivery of patient specific medications.
  Inventories, replenishes, and maintains drug stock.
• For Outpatient Pharmacy Tech 1, activities include but are not limited to:
  Utilises pharmacy systems to process prescriptions, including insurance adjudication, and accurately prepares dangerous drugs for dispensing including counting, pouring, labeling, and performing non-sterile drug compounding and reconstitution.
  Inventory, replenish, and maintain drug stock which includes automated dispensing cabinets and prescription pick-up kiosks.
  Packaging and selling dangerous drugs to a patient or patient representative and answering questions to ensure a positive patient experience.
• For Medication History Pharmacy Tech 1, activities include but are not limited to:
  Support medication history collection process for ED and inpatient units utilizing appropriate sources and communication.
  Communicate effectively with patients during the interview and accurately record the medication history.
  Maintain open communication with nurses, patient care technicians, practitioners, and other personnel in the hospital to report important findings.
  Duties may include those addressed above in the Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Essential Functions.
• For Infusion Pharmacy Tech 1, Infusion Technician Essential Functions align with Inpatient Technician Essential Functions.
