Job summary

St. Marys Medical Center Hospital in West Palm Beach is seeking an experienced Pharmacy Technician for per diem shifts. You will assist in dispensing functions, including labeling, inventory control, sterile product preparation, and IV admixtures under pharmacist supervision.

The position requires a Florida Pharmacy Technician license or intern status, high school diploma, and willingness to work in a fast-paced hospital pharmacy environment with adherence to USP <797> and <800> standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Florida Registered Pharmacy Technician or Intern Licensee.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred; sterile IV admixture training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Accurately fill and label medication orders with correct strength, dosage form, and quantity in a timely manner.
• Accurately stock automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) in a timely manner.
• Fill/refill emergency crash carts, boxes, and kits timely and accurately.
• Re-package and label oral medications/extemporaneous preparations and maintain appropriate records.
• Prepare simple IV admixtures (excluding chemotherapy, biotherapy) per USP<797> and USP<800>.

Job Description

The individual in this position acts under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and provides assistance in dispensing functions, including: purchasing, inventory control of all drug classes, sterile product preparation and associated equipment maintenance, and automated dispensing cabinet equipment and inventory maintenance. Also performs technical duties to maintain pharmaceutical dispensing functions to all neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, including inpatients and outpatients.

Responsibilities

• Accurately fill and label medication orders with correct strength, dosage form, and quantity in a timely manner.
• Accurately stock automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) in a timely manner.
• Fill/refill emergency crash carts, boxes, and kits timely and accurately.
• Re-package and label oral medications/extemporaneous preparations and maintain appropriate records.
• Respond appropriately to requests for STAT orders, routine orders, department requests, and ADC stock out bulletins.
• Assure all medications are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing.
• Stock medications into pharmacy inventory, including sterile compounding areas.
• Maintain adequate medication stock levels and proper storage of medications.
• Deliver medications to patient care areas.
• Attend to medication requests and phone calls.
• Prepare simple IV admixtures (excluding chemotherapy, biotherapy) accurately, consistent with IV policies and procedures (USP<797> and USP<800>).
• Comply with state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission standards and Tenet and hospital policies and procedures.
• Assist in performing various duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience:

• Required: Must be 18 years of age
  Preferred: Hospital experience

License:

• Florida Registered Pharmacy Technician or Intern Licensee

Certifications:

• Preferred: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through PTCB,
• Accredited training in sterile products preparation and IV Admixture Certification
